NJ MADISON — Shade Tree Board discusses spring planting progress and endorses Quiet Summer Initiative. Chairman Gene Cracovia reported 30 trees planted this spring with plans for watering and alligator bags. Madison marked 41 years as Tree City USA following its May 2 Arbor Day Celebration featuring three elementary schools and St.
Vincent's performers. The board approved April minutes and agreed to support the MEC proposal restricting gas-powered blowers from June through September. A Salem White Oak tree propagated from the historic Salem Oak was planted in Cole Park by board member George Limbach with Cub Scout Pack 124 to honor the U.S.
Semiquincentennial. A survey of 100 Rotary trees found seven dead and seven missing, with many showing deer damage.
